Well it took a fair while to happen, but I’ve finally got a plot, or at least the beginnings of one, for this year’s NaNo. I’ve had the setting down for quite a while, but the plot and the characters have so far been more elusive. But one last piece of setting slid into place a few days ago, and the beginnings of a plot just popped into my head as I was toying with it.

Basically the addition the the setting is the fact that I’ve decided Geothermal is going to be a major player in the energy market of the world I’m writing about. And since my setting, while also being a research station, is officially a nuclear fusion power station it makes sense to have people from the geothermal companies feel threatened to the point where they might try sabotage.

Combine that with some diplomatically sensitive research going on (not exactly as a black project, though it is a decidedly grey one) and all of a sudden there’s more than enough plot to go around. The way things are going I could end up with at least two groups of saboteurs running around, as well as a couple of spies, and of course the people doing the actual work who are actually supposed to be there.

I’ve still got to get the character specifics nailed down, and figure out how I’m going to balance the sabotage and espionage angles, but I’m definitely into plot territory, and I’ve got 22 days left to fill in the rest and be ready to roll.
